HYATT REGENCY Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina
100 Heron Blvd,
Cambridge, MD 21613

The 2016 MASSP spring conference, "Differentiated Instruction: A Challenge Leaders Can't Refuse" has a whole new look.

First, we once again join our MAESP colleagues at ONE venue, the Cambridge Hyatt, but THIS year we share several sessions including Dr. Tomlinson's keynote.

Next, this new venue is absolutely gorgeous.  The hotel provided us an unbelievable room rate of only $150 per night.  Catering costs are a bit higher which explains this year's increased registration fee.  And of course, Cambridge is closer to the baltimore metro area saving all of us travel time.  To get our special room rate, please reserve your room using the following link:

The golf tournament will be different this year.  Of course, we will play at the Hyatt and we will join our MAESP colleagues in a traditional scramble format.  We expect 10-12 foursomes to participate.  Participants pay in advance with form that you can download at the link below.  Cost is $ 75 including lunch.  Sign up for the tournament by downloading this form and sending payment to Jerry DeGrange as indicated  Golf Registration

Conference begins Thursday Evening, March 30 at 7:00 with an Open Bar Reception with heavy hors d'oevres sponsored by Josten's which ends at 9:00 PM.  Meet with our exhibitors tonight and qualify for a $100 gift card.  You can also meet with exhibitors at breakfast Friday morning

Registration includes all activities on Friday, March 31--Breakfast (sponsored by EdConnective), keynote, concurrent sessions (sponsored by Belkin Education and Lexia Learning), lunch (sponsored by McGraw Hill Education), cocktail reception (sponsored by Lifetouch and Balfour), banquet (sponsored by AXA), and post-banquet reception sponsored by Edmentum.

Breakfast Friday morning is from 8 till 9 AM, keynote and concurrent sessions run through 12:30 PM and our luncheon and business meeting runs till 2:30.  We have an optional "speed dating" networking session after the luncheon.  Our pre-banquet Cocktail Reception is at 6 PM followed by the banquet and post-banquet happy hour.

NASSP president Jayne Ellspermann presents a workshop on "Leading at the Speed of Change" from 9 till 10:30 AM Saturday, April 1.  Cost of breakfast is extra for this event--buy the appropriate ticket.

We have some great concurrent sessions described below.

Using Performance Matters as a Tool for School Improvement

This session will focus specifically on the use of data as a tool for school improvement.  A six-step process will be discussed regarding how data collection platforms can be used to capture and analyze teacher effectiveness. Finally, participants will have the opportunity to discuss habits that lead to a quality Student Learning Objective.

Building a Positive School Culture through shifting your MINDSET

Participants will learn about Dr. Carol Dwek's work around "Mindset". The presenter will provide an opportunity for participants to assess their mindset and engage through collaboration on how to build a positive school culture using innovate strategies to teach 21st century learners.

The presenter will share strategies, structures and systems used during the first year of a Principalship to build school culture.  The session is designed to engage, interact, and collaborate with school leaders to share best practices to transform and sustain a positive school culture.

Hot Legal Topics for School Administrators

Steve Bounds from the School Boards Association will bring you up-to-date on a variety of hot topics including gender identity, student data privacy, and new laws governing student journalism.

Maryland’s ESSA Accountability Plan—What Administrators should know

Ass’t State Sup’t Mary Gable is the state’s point person developing this plan to be finalized this summer.  Find out how YOUR school will be assessed, on what criteria, and what the consequences might be for failing schools.  Provide YOUR input before the plan is finalized.

Creating Differentiated Environment via Technology Integration in the Classroom

With the advancements of the 21st century's exponentially changing times. it is imperative that we incorporate technologies within the classroom that are current, relevant, and up to date to instructional practices. This session will employ digital tools and strategies that can be implemented across all content areas that enable classrooms to be more technologically savvy.

The NEW Bridge Plans (AVP) for PARCC tests

PARCC Algebra I and English 10 become graduation requirements for students in grades where they take these assessments starting 2017-18.  The Bridge projects will look significantly different than in the past.  Hear Director of Instructional Assessment Cecilia Roe describe how the new projects will be organized, SEE examples in English, Math, Government, AND Biology, and ask important questions.

Insights from Principals of the Year

Join last year’s Principals of the Year Annette Wallace and Liza Hastings who will share the special impact their leadership had on their schools that helped them to win this coveted award.  You will learn not only about exemplary school programs but also gain insights regarding what it takes to successfully compete for the Principal of the Year Award.

What is a Maker Space and How it will Benefit your School

Staff from MSDE and the Digital Harbor Foundation will direct this hands-on session to expose administrators to this growing movement in education.  You will take away lots of ideas to share back at your school plus resources to explore if you want to learn even more.  A longer presentation on this topic served as a workshop earlier in the year that received excellent evaluations.
